Job Description

Development and Production International (DPI) is responsible for Statoil’s portfolio of producing assets and planned field developments in all countries outside Norway and US. DPI’s ambition is to ensure industry-leading safety and security performance in all our operations and partner-operated fields, while maximising value from producing fields. DPI oversees business and operations in 17 countries accross six continents. Key development projects are found in Angola, Brazil, Canada, UKCS and Tanzania. Angola produced 206,000 boe/d in 2014 which equals to around 10% of Statoil’s total production. This is the highest oil production in any one country outside Norway.

North-Komsomolskoye is an onshore oil field located on the Western Siberian tundra in Russia. The field has significant in place volumes, but the reservoir is challenging. Statoil and Rosneft have agreed to establish a Joint Venture Company which will be operator for the license. The company is named LLC SevKomNefteGaz (SKN). Statoil will have a 33.33% ownership and several positions in the company. The parties have agreed to start test production in 2018 with the aim to better understand the reservoir and to test alternative well configurations and completion methods. This will form the basis for a potential full field development decision in 2019. A full field development will involve an extensive drilling program of 500 to 900 wells and construction of processing plant, pipelines and utilities.

The company and the position is located in the city of Gubkinsky.

Job Description

During planning of new projects, collaborate closely with Petec, D&W, Facilities, Operations and design institutes to identify different technical solutions based on defined selection criteria (economy, HSE, schedule, etc.)

Evaluate design solutions for process facilities, utility systems and mechanical equipment

In collaboration with departments and interfacing disciplines, define and document the most optimal concept for design process facilities, utility systems and mechanical equipment

Get deviations from technical requirements if needed

Take part in making the technical assignment and invitation to tender for design work

Participate in technical evaluation of tenderers

Carry out start-up meeting with contractor, including review of scope of work to make sure common understanding and alignment

Provide design information needed for Operations

Ensure consistent system design and interface control

During commissioning, follow-up quality according to design

Take part in commissioning and ensure safe and timely start-up

Prepare input to long-term business planning and decision memos

Give input regarding engineering and construction-activities within own area to calendar planning for planning and progress reporting of the total project

Carry out forecasting, progress reporting and report any deviations from agreed plan

Provide input to the project risk matrix, take part in defining mitigating actions and follow-up accordingly

Prepare weekly report with last week’s achievements, plan for next week and concerns/ recommended actions to improve

Contribute to a good working environment within SKN and with contractors

Execute actions which you are responsible for in a timely manner

Compile experience reports


Technical education at bachelor or master level

Minimum 5 years relevant experience

Good knowledge of relevant laws, governing documentation, design norms and specifications

Multi-discipline and value chain understanding

Expertise in project management

Proven track-record from facilities planning, design work, construction and operations of onshore oil fields in Russia and/or abroad

Knowledge of factor analysis methods

Fluent in Russian and English, orally and in writing

Familiar with Microsoft-software (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point, Visio)

Personal Qualities

High focus on HSE and ability to drive HSE-improvements

Commercial understanding and strong drive for improving business case value, including implementation of new technologies

Able to assess, communicate and handle uncertainties and risk

General Information

After a short period of introduction and initial training in Statoil the employee will be mobilized to SKN in Gubkinsky in Western Siberia. Possible relocation to a city not yet decided after one to two years.

The Lead Specialist position is on local and permanent terms in Russia.
